It deserves zero stars! It used to be decent bbq. Tonight it was terrible. Service was good but the food was just awful. On the 1/2 chicken plate the chicken was cold and dry; almost tasted reheated and bland. The fries and chicken fingers were so greasy my daughter couldn't eat them. Yuck! We will not be back. We were wishing we had just gone to the Chick Fil A across the street. Please do NOT think this is AL bbq if you are from out of town...it most definitely is not! UPDATE : after eating here last night, our dining party is sick. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

1 star was good service. Waitress was nice but couldn't recommend much because she really didn't eat beef or sausage. I asked for crispy fries and got dark greasy fries. Bread was stale and the Mac and Cheese tastes like it came out of the box. Wouldn't recommend if you love BBQ.

I have never had such dry, chewy, tasteless BBQ. No wonder they pour sauce all over it. Baked beans tasted like cheap canned cafeteria food. And you would think southerners would know how to make fried green tomatoes. Such a waste of money! The only plus was good tea and hush puppies.

Stopped eating here when I couldn't order a Bbq chicken sandwich without a bunch of small bones in it. I understand there are bones in chickens as said by the manager but when feeding this food to a small child I need it to not be deadly!

I've decided to write this review in haiku form. Where's the Heinz Ketchup? Had to settle for Red Gold. Should have been a sign. Chicken fingers cold. Okra tasted like old books. Baked potato... Eh. Had to ration straws. Server seen but not with us. Long, long time for check. Would we return here? Once a year we forget it. We are reminded. Good bye Golden Rule. Until we see you next year. Good bye Golden Rule.

They have a smoke alarm that beeps every few minutes. Told manager and he said. It always does that. Fix It!! Almost drove me nuts listening to it during the meal. Bbq is dry. Sides are generally good. Desserts are wonderful. Service is good.

Service a little slow but very friendly. Greens are very good so is the beef brisket.

Good, friendly service and killer greens.

For a girl from the city this place is more like fast food than anything else ... But for the country folks this is going out to dinner... Food was small portioned ,,, Corn on the cob probably sat for hours in boiling water.. I ordered "smashed potatoes " they were ok ..... Cheap and nice staff . ..... But not the southern bbq that i was looking for,,,,

Driving through Alabama, I swear the whole STATE smells of barbecue! So, by the time we came across Golden Rule in Pell City, I was ready for what they claim is the "best BBQ in the state." Well, ahem, if this is the "best" Alabama has to offer..... Don't get me wrong, it's OKAY barbecue, but I'd put a thousand bucks on the table and say I could find better within 10 miles, if I had the time to look. Their lunch plates are a good deal and the service that goes along with it gets you back on the road in under 30 minutes. I had the pulled pork plate. The meat was a little dry, which confuses the heck out of me. Pulled pork? Best in the state? Dry?!? The flavor was good. The squash casserole as a side was excellent. And the sauce was quite good (and that's what saves the meat). Another plus for Golden Rule is the basket of mini cornbread muffins you get at the table. WOW! SO GOOD! I'd make a trip just for those.....yeah, silly, I know. But, I'm willing to give them another shot at that barbecue claim just to have another basket of those muffins.
